Hibernation: pause your server, keep everything
Pause any server for a flat $1.99 a month. Your world, mods, configs and address stay safe with us until you resume.
The short version
Hibernation pauses a server for a flat $1.99 a month, whatever the plan. The world, mods, configs and address are all kept. Start it from the dashboard, resume whenever you want, and the server comes back as it was. It is the alternative to cancelling when your group is simply between seasons.
#What is hibernation?
Pause your server, keep everything, pay less. We snapshot your full server (world, mods, configs, the lot) to long-term storage and free up the live slot. While paused you keep your address, your settings, and your place in our scheduler. When you're ready, one click brings it back online from where you left off.
It's the option you reach for instead of cancelling: holiday, exam season, a new job, a quiet month with your friend group. Anything where you don't want to play right now but you'd hate to lose what you've built.
#What's preserved?
- Your world (all of it, not just the spawn chunk).
- Mods, plugins, modpack version, server configs, server.properties.
- Your subdomain (
yourname.hostd.itoryourname.hostdservers.com) - your friends' bookmarks still work when you resume. - Whitelist, ops, ban list.
- Scheduled tasks (auto-restarts, scheduled backups), paused alongside the server.
#How much does it cost?
A flat $1.99 a month (£1.99 / €1.99), whatever your plan size. You are paying for cold storage, not for RAM and CPU, so the price does not scale with the plan. Worlds over 50 GB hibernate at $4.99 a month, and the dashboard shows which rate applies before you confirm.
Pick whichever cycle you want:
- Monthly - the headline rate.
- Quarterly - monthly × 3.
- Annually - monthly × 10. Two months free.
You can switch cycles while hibernated (Billing → Switch to annual), when you resume, or by hibernating again later on a different cycle.
#How do I start?
Two routes:
- Settings → Hibernate this server. The deliberate path; we'll show you the price for each cycle and confirm before snapshotting.
- Cancel flow. When you go to cancel, hibernation shows up as the gentler alternative. Same outcome as the settings route.
We swap your active subscription to a hibernation price in Stripe; you don't pay both at once.
#How do I resume?
One click from your dashboard - Resume server on any paused server. We restore the snapshot, swap your billing back to the live plan, and your address is hot again. A quick restore, then you're back where you were.
#What if my card declines?
We'll keep your world safe for 14 days while you sort it out, with friendly reminders along the way. Update your card from Billing and we'll retry; nothing's lost in the meantime.
#What if I want to permanently delete a paused server?
There's a 7-day window where you can change your mind. Once that's up the snapshot is removed for good - we don't keep data forever for paused servers, but we make sure you've had time to decide.
#Can I download my world while paused?
Yes, any time. The snapshot is yours - the paused server's card in your dashboard has a Download world button that streams the full archive.
#What's not supported yet?
- Linkd proxy networks. Hibernating a Linkd Core or a server linked into a network isn't supported just yet. Coming soon. For now, unlink first if you want to hibernate a backend.
#Hibernate or cancel?
Cancel if you're done. Hibernate if you might want it back. Hibernation costs a fraction of the live plan and means no rebuild, no re-uploading your world, no losing your address. Most people who cancel and come back later wish they'd hibernated instead.
#Frequently asked questions
What happens to my world when I hibernate a server?
Nothing. The world, mods, configs and your address are all preserved while the server is paused. Resuming brings it back as it was, which is the entire point: hibernation exists so you do not have to choose between paying full price and losing your setup.
How much does hibernation cost?
A flat $1.99 a month (£1.99 / €1.99), whatever your plan size. You are paying for the storage that keeps your world and configs safe, rather than for the RAM and CPU a running server needs. Worlds over 50 GB hibernate at $4.99 a month; the dashboard shows which rate applies before you confirm.
Should I hibernate or cancel?
Hibernate if you expect to come back, which most groups between seasons do. Cancel if you are genuinely finished. Cancelling ends the subscription and the data goes with it once the retention window passes; hibernation keeps everything waiting.
Can I download my world while the server is hibernated?
Yes. The hibernated server card in the dashboard has a "Download world" button that streams the full hibernation archive as a tar file, so your data is never locked away while paused.
