How to cancel a server / subscription
Stop the next renewal with one click - your server keeps running until the paid period ends.
The short version
Billing tab on your server dashboard, then Cancel subscription. The server runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. On the expiry date we stop the container and mark it for deletion 7 days later, so you have a week to change your mind or grab a final backup.
Server dashboard → Billing tab → Cancel subscription. You'll get a confirmation email.
The server keeps running until the end of the period you've already paid for. On the expiry date, we stop the container and mark it for deletion 7 days later - giving you a window to change your mind or grab a final backup.
#Not sure you're done? Hibernate instead.
If you might want the server back later, hibernate it rather than cancelling. It is a flat $1.99 a month, your world and address stay safe with us, and resuming is one click. Most people who cancel and come back wish they'd paused instead.
#Take a backup before you cancel
Server dashboard → Backups → Download. The file is a zip of your world + configs. Keep it somewhere safe.
Do this before the expiry date rather than during the 7-day grace window. The grace window exists so a change of mind is possible, not as the intended moment to be downloading things.
#The timeline, in order
- You cancel. Nothing changes yet. The server runs normally and you get a confirmation email.
- The paid period ends. The container stops. Your data is still on disk.
- Seven days later. The server and its data are deleted.
Between steps 1 and 2 you can resubscribe and carry on as though nothing happened. Between 2 and 3 you can still recover the data. After 3 there is nothing to recover, which is the whole reason step 3 is announced rather than immediate.
#What cancelling does not do
- It does not close your account. Your Hostd login, billing history and any other servers are untouched.
- It does not stop other servers. Cancellation is per subscription, so a second server on the same account keeps running and keeps billing.
- It does not refund the current period. You keep what you have paid for. If you are inside the 7-day money-back guarantee on your first charge, that is a separate thing and worth reading.
#If you are cancelling because something is wrong
Worth saying: if you are leaving because the server was lagging, kept crashing, or was the wrong size, those are usually fixable and often in ways that cost less than starting again elsewhere. Lag has a diagnosis path, crashes usually name their own cause, and plan changes are a restart rather than a migration.
Open a ticket first if any of that sounds like your situation. If it turns out we cannot fix it, cancelling is still there tomorrow.
#Frequently asked questions
Does cancelling delete my server immediately?
No. The server runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. On the expiry date the container stops and the server is marked for deletion 7 days after that, which gives you a week to change your mind or download a final backup.
How long do I have to download my data after cancelling?
Until the end of your paid period, plus the 7-day window after the container stops. Take the backup before the expiry date rather than relying on the grace period, because a stopped server is a worse place to be doing it from.
Can I cancel and come back later?
You can always order again, but a cancelled server's data is deleted after the 7-day window. If you expect to return, hibernation keeps the world, mods, configs and address for a flat $1.99 a month.
Will I be charged again after cancelling?
No. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep what you have paid for until it expires and nothing further is taken.
