This Cookie Policy explains how Hostd uses cookies and similar local-storage technologies when you visit https://hostdservers.com or use the dashboard. The cookies we set to sign you in and protect your session are strictly necessary. We do not set advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies and we do not load third-party tracking scripts. We also collect statistics on how the site is used so we can improve it, described in section 4. You can switch that off at any time, and in the European Economic Area we do not collect it at all unless you consent.
- We count which pages people look at, so we can make the site better.
- We do not know who you are, and we are not trying to find out.
- We do not sell anything about you, and we do not show you adverts.
- We do not follow you to other websites.
- We forget you every day. Tomorrow you are a new visitor to us.
- If you would rather we did not count your visit, choose “Do not measure” in the notice at the bottom of the screen, or use the privacy settings link at the bottom of any page. It is one click, it is free, and it keeps working on later visits.
1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a site. They let the site remember information between requests, such as that you are signed in. Local storage and session storage are similar mechanisms accessible to client-side JavaScript.
2. Cookies We Set
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
accessToken | Keeps you signed in for the current session. | 15 minutes | Strictly necessary |
refreshToken | Lets you stay signed in across sessions without re-entering your password. | 7 days | Strictly necessary |
csrfToken | Protects dashboard requests against cross-site request forgery. | 7 days | Strictly necessary |
3. Local Storage and Session Storage
| Key | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in session and dashboard preferences | Caches your profile so the dashboard renders without a flash of unauthenticated content; stores small preferences like display currency and dismissed banners; remembers a referral code you arrived with so it can be applied at checkout; lets the file manager resume large uploads after a network interruption. Cleared on sign-out or when you clear browser storage. | Until sign-out / cleared |
| Usage statistics session keys | A random per-tab identifier, a last-activity timestamp, and any campaign parameters you arrived with, which group page views from the same browsing session. Stored in sessionStorage only. Set only if you have consented; without consent the visit is grouped on our own servers instead and nothing is stored on your device. | Tab close or 30 minutes idle |
| Privacy choice | Records the choice you made about usage statistics, so we can honour it on later visits and stop showing you the notice. This is what makes an objection stick. | 12 months |
4. Usage Statistics
We collect statistics on how https://hostdservers.com is used, so we can improve it. The script that records this is served from our own infrastructure at /api/t/track.js and posts to /api/t/e on the same domain. Nothing is sent to any third party, we build no profiles, and we make no decisions about individual people from it.
For each page view we use your IP address and browser details to create a temporary identifier, so we can count a visit once rather than many times and look up your approximate country. We do not keep the IP address itself. The identifier is built with a secret that changes every day and is destroyed within 48 hours, so visits cannot be linked from one day to the next. This is pseudonymisation rather than anonymisation: while that day's secret exists the data is personal data, and we treat it as such.
Individual records are combined into daily totals and the individual records are then deleted. Only the totals are kept after that.
Lawful basis. In the UK we rely on the statistical purposes exception in Schedule A1 paragraph 5 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, together with our legitimate interest in understanding and improving our own website. In the European Economic Area we collect nothing at all unless you have given consent.
Your right to object. You can stop this collection at any time and free of charge by choosing “Do not measure” in the notice, or by using the privacy settings link in the footer of any page. We also honour Do Not Track (navigator.doNotTrack) and Global Privacy Control: if either signal is present, nothing is recorded for your visit. You may also write to privacy@hostdservers.com.
With your consent we additionally record the size of your browser window, your browser language, and the value of any purchase you complete, and we connect the visit to your account if you are signed in. None of that happens without consent.
5. Third-Party Cookies
We do not set advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not embed third-party tracking scripts on our marketing pages. When you make a payment we redirect to or embed Stripe's checkout, which sets its own cookies solely to process the transaction and to detect fraud. Those cookies are governed by the Stripe cookie policy. If you choose to link your Discord account, Discord may set its own cookies during the OAuth redirect, governed by the Discord cookie policy.
6. Managing Cookies
Because the cookies we set are strictly necessary for authentication and security, disabling them will prevent you from signing in to the dashboard. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage at any time; please refer to your browser's documentation. You can also sign out from the dashboard at any time, which clears the authentication cookies and the cached profile in local storage.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We do not use behavioural advertising or cross-context tracking. The usage statistics described in section 4 honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: if either signal is present the script does not load, and our servers discard the request before any identifier is created. These signals are in addition to, not instead of, the controls described in section 4.
8. Changes
We will update this page if our use of cookies or local storage changes. The "Effective" date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
