Honest comparison

Hostd vs SparkedHost

Three hardware lines from $1 to $4 per GB, and a headline price that undercuts us until you add backups and an IP.

Where SparkedHost is strong

  • Per-node hardware transparency that almost nobody else offers. They publish the exact CPU, memory speed, RAID level and uplink for every node in every location, and mark which hardware they own and which they rent.
  • Three clearly separated lines at $1.00, $2.59 and $4.00 per GB, so the price against performance trade is out in the open.
  • A real free trial at $0.00 on the tiers you would actually buy, including their top Extreme line.
  • Free help migrating from a previous host, and free DDoS protection with the upstream provider named for each selectable location.
  • Water-cooled top-line nodes in several locations, which matters for the sustained single-thread clocks Minecraft depends on.

Where Hostd wins

Backups are in the plan, not an upsell

SparkedHost sell backups as an order-form add-on at $1.00 to $2.75 a month, and even the top option retains only seven days - "No Backups (Not Advised)" sits on the form as a choice. Our daily backups are included and stored off-site.

A dedicated IP you do not pay for or chase

Theirs is $4.00 a month, covers either Java or Bedrock, not both, and their own store notes it "is not automatically given, if you do not get yours, make a ticket". Ours arrives with the server.

A refund that does not depend on us agreeing

Their Minecraft refund is 24 hours and conditional on them failing to fix a documented problem. Their non-Minecraft games get a guaranteed 48 hours on a first purchase, so Minecraft buyers have the weaker deal. Ours is seven days, no questions asked.

Support is not a subscription

Access to their Discord support channel is $3.00 a month and Extended Support is another $5.00. Talking to us is part of the price.

The CPU on the plan is the CPU you get

Their Enterprise line is sold as "Ryzen 9 7900 or equivalent", while their own hardware page shows those nodes running Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 5700X on DDR4, and a Xeon E-2386G depending on location. Every Hostd node is a Ryzen 9700X.

Their column shows the Enterprise line, their middle tier at $2.59 per GB. The line that matches our hardware is Extreme at $4.00 per GB, which costs more than us at every size. On the Enterprise sticker they undercut us at every tier, and the comparison changes once you match what is included: adding five days of backups at $1.50 and a dedicated IP at $4.00 takes their 6 GB plan from $15.54 to $21.04 against our $17.99, and the same $5.50 applies at every size. Their Budget line is cheaper again at $1.00 per GB, and it runs dual Xeon E5 v2 to v4 silicon, with DDR3 at 1333 MHz in Salt Lake City, on SSD, not NVMe. Minecraft is bound by single-thread speed more than anything else, so that line is a different product rather than a cheaper version of the same one. Note also that only six of the locations they advertise can be selected for Minecraft.
