Honest comparison

Hostd vs Nodecraft

Premium hardware, 27 locations, and almost nothing upsold. They cost more than us and earn a good deal of it.

Where Nodecraft is strong

  • They upsell essentially nothing. Dedicated IP, MySQL, backups, subdomain, sub-users and DDoS protection are all in the base price, with optional support the only add-on. We take the same approach, so this is not a point of difference between us.
  • Twenty-seven locations across four continents with a latency tester on the pricing page, which is far wider coverage than we offer and the right reason to pick them if your players are somewhere we do not run.
  • Backups are held for a minimum of 45 days, stay downloadable after you cancel, and sit off-site. That is a deliberate anti-lock-in stance and it is better than most of the market.
  • Named hardware: Ryzen 9 7950X class at 4.5+ GHz with ECC DDR5 and NVMe. The ECC memory is something we do not offer.
  • Their Lite tier hibernates when idle and wakes from a shared link at around 40% off, on the same hardware as Pro.

Where Hostd wins

Roughly half the price per GB

Nodecraft Pro is $4.99 per GB per month. A 10 GB modded server is $49.98 there. The gap widens as you go up the ladder, and it is the main reason to choose us over them.

Hibernation without losing features

Nodecraft Lite is the cheap way to idle, but it drops the static IP, manual backups and scheduled tasks. Our hibernation keeps the plan intact for a flat $1.99 a month while you pause.

A refund you can use more than once

Their money-back guarantee runs seven days and is valid for one service per customer for the lifetime of the account, with a clause letting them decline at their sole discretion. Ours is seven days on a first plan, no questions asked.

Scheduled tasks on every plan

Automated tasks are a Pro-only feature at Nodecraft, so the cheaper tier cannot run a nightly restart on a schedule. Ours are included regardless of tier.

One server, no instance slots to reason about

Nodecraft save games as instances and you run one at a time per subscription. A Hostd plan is a server, and a second server is a second plan, which is easier to hold in your head.

Their column shows Nodecraft Pro, the always-on tier, at its regular rate rather than a promotional one - they were mid-sale at about 30% off when we checked, so their checkout may show less than the table. Their Lite tier is about 40% cheaper and hibernates when idle, which is a fair comparison only if you also drop the static IP, manual backups and scheduled tasks that Lite does not include. Nodecraft is a good host and the price gap is the headline: you are paying roughly double per GB for ECC memory, 27 locations and a 45-day backup retention policy. If your players sit in a region we do not run in, that is a better reason to pick them than anything on this page.
