Honest comparison

Hostd vs Apex Hosting

Household name in Minecraft hosting. Here's the side-by-side: prices, hardware, and what each of us throws in.

Where Apex Hosting is strong

  • 10+ years in market - huge library of support articles and YouTube walkthroughs.
  • Live-chat support with humans on shift 24/7.
  • Very large list of supported games - everything from Factorio to 7 Days to Die.

Where Hostd wins

Provisioning under 60 seconds

Vanilla games start in seconds; modpacks install automatically on first boot with live progress.

Free hostd.it short domain

Higher tiers get the short domain included. No upsell.

Dashboard that doesn't nag

No upsell banners between you and your console. No "premium" behind a paywall that our competitors charge for.

Backups of the whole server, kept properly

Apex back up your main world only, not plugins or configs, and their own guides say either one or two copies are retained with each overwriting the last. A problem you notice a day late is likely already gone. Ours are daily, full and off-site.

A refund without a probable cause test

Apex advertise seven days, and their terms add that "refunds cannot be requested without probable cause", with the clock starting at server creation rather than payment. Ours is seven days, no questions asked.

A dedicated IP that arrives with the server

Theirs is $4 a month extra, takes around two days, and may involve moving your server to a different node. Ours comes with the plan.

Pause without losing anything

Hibernate any server for a flat $1.99 a month - your world, mods and address stay put until you resume. Most hosts make you cancel and start over.

Pricing at comparable specs

Minecraft Java pricing, monthly billing. Hostd rows show our actual plan tiers; competitor rows show their closest-RAM plan. See /pricing for our other games.

Their column shows Apex's recurring price rather than the advertised one. Apex run a standing 25% first-order discount, so the price on their plan cards is a first invoice and renewal is a third higher. Two other things worth checking before you compare on hardware: Apex sell standard plans as shared vCores, with dedicated cores reserved for their EX-Series at roughly a 38% premium, and their published per-location spec table shows an uneven fleet, with Sydney on a four-core i7-7700K from 2017 and Tel Aviv on DDR3-era dual Xeons with SATA SSDs, at the same price as their DDR5 and NVMe sites. Every Hostd plan runs the same Ryzen 9700X with DDR5, NVMe and hard-reserved RAM, and a dedicated IP, daily backups, sub-users, scheduled tasks and the mod installer are in the price you see.
